Hi, we’re the Hewells!
Who the Hewells are…
I’m Nina, wife to Kevin and mom to two wild Hewells, Memphis (11) and Nox (8). We live on a farm out in the country. Kevin is a commercial chicken farmer, a cattle farmer, a painter and basically a Mr. Do it All. I have yet to find something that he cannot do.
I am a tax accountant by trade, but I dream of a freer, more self sufficient, and sustainable life. Being raised in your typical American household, I grew up with all the modern conveniences. Our household had all those conveniences, but also consisted of home cooked meals from scratch and a dad who could fix almost anything. If he couldn’t do it himself, he could find someone to help him. My Mema lived next door (like right across the yard) and I remember sitting under our large pecan tree between our houses shellin’ and snappin’ beans and shuckin’ corn. We would shell and pick pecans too. As you can see I grew up with a lot of modern and some “old fashioned” mixed in. It was a great childhood.
Why we’re here…
A few years ago we sold our first home that sat on 9 acres and purchased our current farm of about 58 acres to build the life we had always dreamed of having. Where we are now, my boys can roam free. They can ride their four-wheelers, play in the creek, explore the outdoors, build things, grow things and learn how “simple” life really can be. My boys can be boys, wild little Hewells. They can look around and see all that God has created for us and see that he has provided every single thing we could ever possibly need in this life.
We created this site to document our growing and learning and creating of the life I want for my family. We do not know it all nor do we pretend to. I do lots of things myself (DIY), but I still have so much to learn. So follow along with us here at the Blog as we attempt to learn all the things and become an even freer, more self sufficient and sustainable life.
